Cracker Barrel Fried Apples
CRACKER BARREL FRIED APPLES
These Copycat Cracker Barrel Fried Apples are my favourite dish at Cracker Barrel!
Every time we visit the States and we are close to a Cracker Barrel restaurant, we have to stop in. These Copycat Cracker Barrel Fried Apples sprang from my love of that particular side dish option. ( I’m sure there are going to be a few more recipes along the way. Just wait!)
If you love fried apples just like the ones at Cracker Barrel, you’ve hit the jackpot. These are just like grandma makes. Tasty southern cooking at it’s best and OHHH SOOOO GOOOOOD!!!
As a former Cracker Barrel employee, I can say these are close to the real thing: good, but it needs some tweaking. I think the CB are too sweet, anyhow. We doublesd the apples, used half the sugar, and only 1.5 Tablespoons of cornstarch. It came out very thick, and just the right hint of sweetness. Great with a pork roast, great with pancakes!
I cooked the apples for 20 minutes. For the spice mix I used 1 teaspoon cinnamon,1/2 nutmeg grated, and 1/2 teaspoon cardamom. I use my vanilla sugar.
I made these apples last night and 2 of my boys LOVED them (the other one isn’t much of an apple eater). It doesn’t taste 100% like Cracker Barrel’s, but they were good in their own right. I might try adding a little butter next time to see if that makes them taste more like Cracker Barrel’s.
I only used 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, and the sauce was plenty thick enough for me.
